Panel Discussion with Local Magazines, March 15th

Even in this age of social media, local and regional print magazines are still finding ways to appeal to their loyal readers. Hear from a panel representing Baltimore area monthlies and bi-monthly magazines, including:

  • Rachel Cieri, associate editor of SmartCEO magazine, a monthly regional business magazine with an audience of 50,000 CEOs in Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
  • Brian Lawrence, editor of Style magazine, Baltimore’s lifestyle magazine, published bi-monthly, covering home design, entertaining, fashion, beauty, food, travel, parties, entertaining, personalities and style.
  • Vicki Franz, publisher of Mason Dixon Arrive, the only monthly lifestyle magazine dedicated to the outer suburbs of Baltimore.

WHERE: Girl Scouts of Central Maryland (4806 Seton Drive, Baltimore, MD 21215). Street parking is available and highly encouraged. Guests should enter through the main entrance.

WHEN: Tuesday, March 15, 2011. Registration and light breakfast begin at 8:30 a.m.; program and Q&A runs from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.

FEES: $15 for BPRC members; $25 for non-members; $10 for students; guests of members are free. Secure online registration is now available!

SNOW POLICY: In the case of inclement weather, note that our program will be cancelled or rescheduled if Baltimore County Public Schools are closed or on a two-hour delay. Registration fees will be refunded if the program is cancelled, or if participants are unable to attend a rescheduled program.

NOTE: If you cancel after the reservation deadline (the Friday prior to each program), you will be responsible for the cost of the reservation. No-shows will be billed.

About the panelists:

Rachel Cieri is the associate editor of SmartCEO magazine, a monthly regional business publication with an audience of 50,000 CEOs in Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. Before joining the SmartCEO editorial staff in June 2010, she graduated with a B.A. in print and online journalism from Elon University. During her time in college, she served as special section editor for Her Campus, a national online magazine for college women; features editor for The Pendulum, Elon’s student newspaper; and design editor for Phi Psi Cli, the yearbook. She was also a communications intern for the Howard County Economic Development Authority.

Brian Michael Lawrence, editor, holds degrees in graphic design and business management from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. His magazine work has merited awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, CRMA, CASE, the AIGA, Financial Week, and the Society for Technical Communications. He has been involved with Style magazine since 1992, holding positions as art director and creative director, before being named as editor. Brian is a member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, and his volunteer affiliations include co-chairing the1844 Committee at the Maryland Historical Society, and Maryland Art Place, where he has served on the Board.

Vicki Franz is the publisher of Mason-Dixon ARRIVE, the only monthly lifestyle magazine dedicated to the outer suburbs of Baltimore. While regional in its approach to content, two separate editions are distributed by direct mail and through strategic free drops in Baltimore County and Harford County. Vicki is also president of Stone House Publications, which will launch two new titles this spring.
