Class Description:

The purpose of this class is to perform professional level administrative duties in coordinating the daily operations of assigned College division or function.

Compensation within the posted range is determined by a candidate’s education level and/or years of experience in the field.  Generally, employees are hired in the lower third of the scale.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or a related field.  Three years of experience in media relations, earned media events and social media. Experience in higher education, journalism or agency experience preferred.

Proficient communication skills and knowledge of Adobe’s Creative Suite preferred. Fluent in social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.) Confident and comfortable working in fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines and multi-tasking. Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel locally and regionally.

Class Specific Essential Duties:

  • Coordinate a functional process within assigned College department or division.
  • Implement department programs or initiatives.
  • Monitor compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Maintains department records and files, as required.
  • Conduct and attend meetings, as required.
  • Supervise, advise, and evaluate assigned staff, as required.
  • Prepare, analyze and provide reports on miscellaneous subjects, as requested.

Position Specific Essential Duties:

  • Plan, coordinate and implement media relations programs and initiatives.
  • Write press releases and secure positive media placements in support of college-wide media relations strategy and brand promotion.
  • Conduct interviews and generate news and feature content for print and electronic media, including college recruitment and advancement publications, website and social media channels, to engage audiences and promote CCBC, its programs, services and initiatives.
  • Develop media contacts and expand outreach (traditional, social, digital influencers) for daily use and specific projects for pitching and story placement.
  • Coordinate and manage interactions with the media, including responding to inquiries, developing talking points, conducting research and responding during crisis.
  • Monitor and contribute content, text and visuals to the college’s social media accounts engaging in dialogue and responding as a CCBC online spokesperson.
  • Support individual marketing and promotional needs of the college, schools, divisions, departments, and offices.
