Cheryl Knauer, McDaniel College

Cheryl Knauer began as the director of media relations at McDaniel College [link: http://www.mcdaniel.edu] in Westminster, in September 2011. In this role, she is responsible for the development and implementation of the college’s ongoing media relations program at the local, regional, and national levels. During her first six months at McDaniel, she has generated widespread coverage not only locally, but regionally and nationally, including articles in The Washington Post, Boston Globe, U.S. News & World Report, BrainTrack, and Diverse: Issues in Higher Education.
Before coming to McDaniel, she spent four years as a senior account executive at Nevins & Associates, a boutique marketing and communications firm in Hunt Valley. At Nevins & Associates, she worked with a variety of clients representing a diverse array of industries (nonprofits, educational organizations, restaurants, healthcare, etc.).
She was formerly the media relations director at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and public relations associate at the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts. She served as president of the Baltimore Public Relations Council from 2006 –2007.

She received a bachelor’s degree in communication, concentration in public relations, and minors in French and women’s studies, from La Salle University in Philadelphia.


Previously, she worked at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), most recently as media relations director. Prior to MICA, she was a public relations associate at the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts.

She is a former president of the Baltimore Public Relations Council and currently is active on the program committee. She also sits on the public relations/marketing committee of St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore and previously was a member of the Baltimore Collegetown Network public relations/marketing committee. She is also a member of the editorial board for RESOLVE, the National Infertility Association. Cheryl is a volunteer with the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life.

She received a bachelor’s degree in communication, concentration in public relations, and minors in French and women’s studies, from La Salle University in Philadelphia.
