Media Relations Specialist
Towson University is seeking an experienced Media Relations Specialist for the Department of University Relations. The successful candidate will advance the university’s mission by “telling and selling” the story, establishing and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with media representatives and social media outlets to gain visibility and recognition for the university.
This position will also promote Towson University to all appropriate external audiences through targeted public relations efforts that will enhance the university’s reputation before the corporate community, the university’s peers and the public at large.
Responsibilities: Become very familiar with the ongoing research and projects of the colleges, identify activities and/or individuals that warrant public awareness, and research and write materials for distribution appropriate to various media. Actively pitch, pitch, pitch! Use all possible vehicles for getting out the word, including new media. Research, write and edit occasional articles for Towson magazine and other publications as necessary; and perform other duties as may be assigned.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and three years related experience that demonstrates ability to communicate articulately, write engagingly and persuasively, work productively with all constituents and demonstrate success in using social media to place stories. A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.
