Learn How the Md. Emergency Management Agency Reaches Residents Through Public Affairs Outreach
Join us as we learn how the Maryland Emergency Management Agency uses public affairs outreach to help Maryland residents on Tuesday, April 21, 2009. The Maryland Emergency Management Agency will discuss its public affairs outreach to help Maryland residents prepare for natural and man-made hazards and how it activates during disasters and other emergency events.
MEMA is finalizing its outreach for the upcoming hurricane season, which starts June 1. This time of year also brings a variety of other weather issues, such as severe storms and occasional tornadoes — some of which appear with little or no warning — and the resulting flash floods. MEMA started using Twitter to update subscribers on issues related to the inauguration of President Obama back in January, and continues to use Twitter while examining other forms of new media as part of its outreach. MEMA also will offer a tour of its facilities, including the State Emergency Operations Center (where we will meet), the 24/7/365 Joint Operations Center and the Joint Information Center.
