Dawn Ward, American Cancer Society

Dawn Ward is the Communications and Marketing Director for the American Cancer Society.  Ward joined the Society’s South Atlantic Division, one of 13 chartered Divisions throughout the United States, in December 2004.  She is responsible for developing and implementing strategic marketing and branding efforts, communications, public relations and media relations specific to the Maryland and Delaware/Delmarva regions.

Ward leads communication and marketing initiatives for the Society’s integrated network of direct patient services and programs, as well as referrals to community resources, known as the Cancer Resource Network.  She also leads the integrated marketing communication efforts for the organization’s field mission delivery operations.

She began her career in 1996 directing public relations and communication efforts for the South Carolina EPSCoR Program, a federal-state partnership to enhance scientific research competitiveness.  She developed and managed multi-million dollar collaborative research, undergraduate and graduate training programs, and small business outreach initiatives at the state’s research and four-year institutions, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Ward holds a Bachelors degree in Marketing and Organizational Management from the University of South Carolina.  She currently serves as the President of the Baltimore Public Relations Council, previously serving as the Vice President from 2007 until 2009.  She is also a member of the Council’s website committee, as well as the Public Relations Society of America and Delta Zeta.  She resides in Baltimore, Md.  Ward can be reached via dawn.ward@cancer.org or (410) 933-5134.
